Drew’s parents were at their wit’s end. The school had been calling mom every day, asking her to pick up her 10-year-old son because of behavior problems; it had gotten so bad she had to quit her job. Drew refused to go to school, to do any homework, and refused to help with household chores. He was sleeping wherever he wanted in the house, sometimes in the living room and sometimes with mom and dad, often wetting himself at night because he didn’t want to get up to use the restroom. The Triple P Positive Parenting Program was presented to mom and dad as an option that might help improve the challenges they were experiencing. They were tired and overwhelmed, but they agreed to give it a try. As they learned new skills and approaches and developed a plan to implement what they were learning with Drew, they started to see changes in Drew’s behavior. By the end of the program, he slept in his own bed, went to school, and completed his homework. Mom was able to return to work and Drew started to develop friendships and spend time with peers. The Triple P practitioner that worked with this family had just learned the program – this was her first Triple P family. They tried it together, and all learned the successes of making small, positive changes.
